Couturier inspires Flyers to win against Capitals in return

WASHINGTON -- Sean Couturier gave coach Alain Vigneault a thumbs up after warmups, and that was a sign that good things were about to happen for the Philadelphia Flyers.


Couturier played after missing 10 games with a rib injury and scored two goals and had an assist in the Flyers' 7-4 victory against the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena on Sunday.


Couturier's goal 31 seconds into the third period broke a 4-4 tie and gave the Flyers the lead for good. The center's empty-net goal with 1:22 remaining closed the scoring and clinched a much-needed win for Philadelphia, which was coming off two come-from-ahead losses to the Boston Bruins (0-1-1).
